The vigil at the Qamishlo border in Nisêbîn (Nusaybin) district of Mêrdîn (Mardin) against the attacks of Turkey and the affiliated Syrian National Army (SNA) against North and East Syria entered its 20th day. The activists, who spent the last day of the year at the border, spoek about the meeting between Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) MPs Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder and PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan on 28 December 2024.

Drawing attention to the importance of the İmralı meeting, Peace Mother Selma Öztürk said: "Mr Abdullah Öcalan constantly gives a message of peace. I hope that this time the talks will end well. I think an important opportunity has been seized. As the name suggests, 'peace' is an important issue that has weight in itself," she said.

NEW YEAR WISH

Pointing the excitement of the İmralı meeting Peace Mother Zühriye Kayık said: "

İmralı görüşmesinin yarattığı heyecana değinen Barış Annesi Zühriye Kayık, “My heart has been burning since the 90s and despite this, I demand peace. My heart has burned and I don't want other mothers' hearts to burn. My wish is to see peace before I die. I hope that Mr Abdullah Öcalan will regain his freedom and peace will be realised. I don't want anyone to experience the pain of a child. I feel very happy and excited after the talks. I hope that peace will be realised this time."

'THE MESSAGE MUST BE UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY'

DEM Party Nisêbîn District Co-chair Mehmet Han Yiğit, who hoped that steps would be taken for an honourable peace, continued as follows: "We do not want to say anything for now because there is nothing clear yet. We support the meeting. There cannot be a better opportunity for peace. The Kurdish people, who have always been subjected to oppression from history to the present, are struggling for status."

Hüseyin Azman, one of the citizens who referred to the dialogue process that took place between 2013 and 2015, stated that it is necessary to understand the message given from İmralu well. "From now on, meetings with his family and lawyers must not be prevented. Mr Abdullah Öcalan wants peace to prevail in Kurdistan and the world. We will definitely succeed," he said.
