Mazlum Aksaç, a prisoner in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Closed Prison No 2, stated in a phone call with his family that he was subjected to ill-treatment by soldiers and wardens at Erzurum State Hospital because he refused to be examined in handcuffs. According to the family members, Aksaç was taken to the hospital on 26 December 2024 due to enlarged bones in his back area, and a prison guard named B. forced Aksaç to be examined in handcuffs, and when he rejected to be examined in handcuffs, he was choked and insulted. 

 

Family members stated that Aksaç was taken back to prison without being treated and called on human rights organisations to be sensitive to the violations. Family members also stated that they would apply to the Human Rights Association (IHD) on the issue.

 

VIOLATIONS REPORT

 

Civil society and legal organizations in Amed (Diyarbakır), in the report they announced within the scope of Human Rights Week, listed the violations in Dumlu High Security Prisons No 1 and 2. In the report, it was emphasised that strip search was imposed at the entrance of the prison, that there were many ill prisoners and their hospital transfers were made too late, and that their infirmary requests were not answered or delayed. 

 

It was also stated that the Administrative and Observation Board made "good behaviour" avaluations of prisoners with questions that were far from objective criteria and unlawful, that prisoners' requests for transfer to places close to their families were rejected without justification, that the administration imposed standing roll-calls on prisoners for 1 year, and that letters were arbitrarily censored by the reading commission.
