MÊRDÎN - Speaking at the march of more than ten thousand people to the Qamishlo border, DEM Party spokeperson Ayşegül Doğan stated that Abdullah Öcalan's call is historical and call on all political and social opposition to take responsibility.
Tens of thousands of people marched to the border in Nisêbîn (Nusaybin) district of Mêrdîn (Mardin) as part of the 21-day long vigil against the attacks of Turkey and the Syrian National Army (SNA) against North and East Syria. Citizens gathered at Barış Park in Nisêbîn in the morning and waited for the time of the march with slogans. More than ten thousand people including Peace Mothers, relatives of prisoners, religious scholars from the Democratic Islamic Congress (DIK), representatives of Alevi organizations, women and young people marched to the border. After coming together in the park, the masses formed cortege and started to march.
The mass sang anthems throughout the march; "Bijî berxwedana Rojava (Long live resistance of Rojava)", "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)" slogans were chanted. The mass carried photographs of journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, who were killed in the attack of UCAVs. During the march, which took place in an enthusiastic manner, the citizens gave both a message of resistance and a message of embracing the message sent by PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
After the march, tens of thousands of people gathered in the area on the border with Qamişlo, where the vigil has been going on for 21 days, and made a statement.
CALL TO HOLD THE HAND OF PEACE
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan referred to the İmralı meeting and said that a lasting peace should be achieved. Ayşegül Doğan said: "Respect the gains of the peoples. We call on those who say they are in favour of the unity and integrity of the peoples to hold the hand of peace extended by the Kurds. Rojava is an example of equal and free unity in the Middle East. To see and accept this truth is to protect human values."
"Our journalist friends Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, who are pursuing news and truth with their cameras, were targeted with UCAVs" said Ayşegül Doğan and added: "This is why DEM Party has put forward the peace that Mr Öcalan has put forward, that he has not given up despite the severe isolation conditions he has been living in for years, and that he has been seeking steadily since 93. This is a historical responsibility. We are ready. Women are ready, men are ready, our geography is ready. We are ready for an equal, just and honourable life. We are struggling for this. And now we want to see the fruits of this struggle. We say to all political and social opposition that if there is to be a political solution, if we want an equal, honourable and just life together, those who demand it are the ones who should hold the other end. It is those who paid the price for this cause."
The statement ended with slogans.
