Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) MPs Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan held a meeting with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı on December 28. Following the meeting, Abdullah Öcalan's 7-point message was shared with the public. Commenting on Abdullah Öcalan's message, Ayhan Ergenç, a member of the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Peoples and Beliefs Assembly, said that peoples and belief groups have important roles to play in this process. 

 

JOINT STEPS MUST BE TAKEN

 

Emphasizing that the concept of "peoples and beliefs" encompasses a plurality, Ergenç stated that there are many peoples in this country and that peoples and belief groups have important roles to paly in this process. Ergenç said, "Peoples and beliefs need to tkae a joint step forward. The relations between them are very important. for this reason, peoples and faiths have a big role to play."

 

ROJAVA MODEL

 

Stating that the long-standing war in Turkey must end, "If this war ends and peace is achieved, there will be a system in which every society will be able to freely display its own structure and thoughts with a democratic nation understanding and a democratic confederal understanding. We saw the importance of this in Rojava. There, this system was created as a role model in the form of cantons and implemented with common alliances," he said. 

 

Explaining democratic confederalism through “dualism”, which is also reflected in beliefs, Ergenç said, “We call the democratic confederal understanding ‘the Third Way in life’. In nature, humanity exists in two ways. One visible and one invisible. The visible is the body, the invisible is the soul. Human beings are in a dilemma in everything. Every human being can be subject to something physically, but not spiritually. Therefore, in order for the soul structure to live more properly and freely within itself, it will be able to live better with its own self and culture with the democratic confederal structure. If there is to be a solution process, it must bring about democratic confederalism. This should also be on a constitutional basis.” 

 

'LET'S SHOUT FOR PEACE'

 

“Today, the Kurds have Mr. Abdullah Öcalan as their interlocutor, no matter what anyone says. The words spoken by Mr. Abdullah Öcalan are implemented by the Kurds. Because his solutions are democratic,” said Ergenç and added, “All civil society organizations, political parties, all individuals have the duty to implement a common life, a democratic life. Especially the peoples of Turkey have to take on this task with common sense. Those who do not fight scream for war. Those who fight scream for peace. Let's shout for peace.” 

 

'RIGHT TO HOPE DECISION MUST BE IMPLEMENTED'

 

Ergenç stated that the European Court of Human Rights ruling on Abdullah Öcalan's “right to hope” must be implemented and MHP Chair Devlet Bahçeli said that this right could be implemented. Ergenç continued, “The right to hope means that someone who has been sentenced to life imprisonment can go out and live freely after a while. The approval of the 'right to hope' will ensure a healthier solution process.”
