AMED - Journalist Selamet Turan was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison and released.
The 4th hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Selamet Turan due to "being an illegal organization member" was held at Diyarbakır 5th Assize Court. Selamet Turan, who has been arrested since 12 February 2024, and his lawyer Resul Tamur were present at the hearing. Selamet Turan's family and relatives also attended the hearing.
The prosecution demanded sentence for Selamet Turan on the charge of "being an illegal organization member" and continuation of his detention.
Making her defence in Kurdish, Selamet Turan said that she do not accept the charges against her. Selamet Turan said "I have been unlawfully detained for almost a year" and demanded her release. Lawyer Tamur, who stated that her client did not have any organizational activities within the scope of the defences they explained, also asked for the acquittal and release of Selamet Turan.
RELEASE VERDICT
Announcing the verdict, the court sentenced Selamet Turan to 6 years and 3 months for "being an illegal organisation member" and released her.
