ANKARA – Ayşegül Doğan evaluated the recent decisions made at the PKK's 12th Congress, emphasizing that the decision is not simply about dissolution but marks the beginning of a new process of democratic change and transformation.

In a press conference held at the party's headquarters, Ayşegül Doğan, spokesperson for the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party stated that the meeting of the Central Executive Committee (MYK) was the most significant one in their political life. The agenda included the ongoing Kurdish issue and the PKK’s recent decisions.

Ayşegül Doğan stated that the deep societal wounds caused by the unresolved Kurdish issue over the last 50 years and noted that a new chapter had now opened in addressing it.

‘WE AWARE OF OUR RESPONSIBILITY’

“This is not just a dissolution decision. It is a call for everyone to join a new construction process, inviting all to democratic change and transformation," said Ayşegül Doğan and added: “We are aware of this responsibility.  We are ready and we have repeatedly stated that we must approach this process with great care. We believe that our upcoming efforts will strengthen the foundation for a peaceful life together. We sincerely hope that the decisions announed today bring blessings, especially to mothers, children, young people, and future generations. This development has opened the door to a political solution for the long-standing and painful Kurdish issue.”

Ayşegül Doğan highlighted that the justifications previously used to hinder the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue have now disappeared. Ayşegül Doğan said, “Because today, the PKK has announced that it is laying down arms. We must not waste this great opportunity.”

Stressing the fact that Abdullah Öcalan’s tireless efforts for a democratic solution, despite years of isolation, conspiracies, assassination attempts, sabotage, and provocations, have now borne fruit. She said, “Considering the historical context, past failures, provocations, and the background, this achievement should not be seen as just a decision.”

‘THE PARLIAMENT FACES HISTORIC RESPONSIBILITY’

Ayşegül Doğan stressed the key role of the Parliament in this process and said: “We hope that the Parliament will take this responsibility seriously. This is a historic moral debt to society, and we are not only calling on the political institutions but the entire society. We can all contribute to this process with our criticisms, suggestions, and constructive contributions because we all want to build a Democratic Republic together.”

‘ÖCALAN MUST ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE’

Ayşegül Doğan stressed that Abdullah Öcalan is still in isolation, and direct communication with him is not possible. She continued: “We have frequently expressed that his conditions must change. There must be conditions for him to actively participate in this process. We hope that this will happen in the coming period.

Ayşgeül Doğan noted that DEM Party does not have additional details beyond the decisions publicly announced.
