ÊLIH - Sabri Kaya, who lost two of his children during the conflict, asked the state to take steps as soon as possible and said, "This people do not want peace without Öcalan. There will be no peace without Serok (Leader) Apo."

Hundreds of thousands of people were forced to migrate from their lands due to the oppression and village evacuations in Kurdistan in the 90s. One of them is Sabri Kaya who had to migrate with his family from Alinê village in Heskîf (Hasankeyf) and settled in Êlih (Batman).

However, state oppression continued to haunt him here as well. In 1991, Kaya was detained in Antalya, where he had gone to work, and was released after seven months in prison. Kaya was detained again during the period when Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan was brought to Turkey by an international conspiracy, was imprisoned for 9 months during this period and for two and a half years within the scope of the "KCK operations" launched in 2009.

LOST 2 CHILDREN

Kaya said that his son Kadir Kaya (Masiro Şoreş) joined the PKK against the ongoing oppression and he was killed in an armed clash in Dêrsim (Tunceli) on 13 May 2014, and that another son Ramazan Kaya (Batman Egit) joined the PKK in 2015. "It was announced that my son Ramazan Kaya was martyred in a clash in Zap in 2022. I don't know where his body is, but I want to get my son's body before I die," he said.

'THE STATE SHOULD TAKE CONCRETE STEPS'

Referring to the "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" made by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan on 27 February, Kaya said that they will stand behind this call until the end. Kaya said, "This process can no longer continue with war and death. We do not want other families to suffer what we have suffered. We want a lasting peace between Kurds and Turks.”

Reminding Turkish Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Leader Devlet Bahçeli’s call on October 2024 for Abdullah Ocalan to come and speak in the Parliament Kaya said: “But the state has not taken any concrete steps yet. The funerals of our children are still coming, there will be no peace in this way. We will never turn back from the path shown by Serok Apo. The President of the Republic should take a concrete step so that these deaths end."

'ABDULLAH ÖCALAN MUST BE FREE'

Emphasising that Abdullah Öcalan must be among the people to ensure peace conditions, Kaya stressed: "This case started with 16-17 people and now it has become 50 million. Without Öcalan, this people do not want peace. There can be no peace without Serok Apo."
