ANKARA - High Representative for Foreign and Security Policies of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, said that they are in dialogue with the Turkish government for Leyla Guven, who is on the 115th day of the hunger strike, and expect them to take steps.

High Representative for European Union Foreign and Security Policies, Federica Mogherini, responded to a letter written by Sinn Féin about Leyla Guven, MP of the People's Democratic Party (HDP) on the 115th day of the hunger strike by lawmaker Martina Anderson.

According to the HDP press office, Mogherini wrote in response to Anderson's statement:

"My dear colleague,

I would like to thank you for the letter you sent about Leyla Güven, who is on a hunger strike due to her concerns about  Abdullah Öcalan's detention conditions.

Given the deteriorating health conditions, the recent release from prison has been a positive step. We will continue to closely monitor the developments and will continue to raise our concerns about Leyla Güven and those in similar situations within the scope of our bilateral and multilateral dialogue with the Turkish authorities. We have done this in the latest EU statement on the OSCE Permanent Council. We asked the Turkish authorities to take steps to secure the state of Leyla Güven.

Turkey is a candidate country and a founding member of the Council of Europe. EU is expecting Turkey to release the  detainees in prison without trial like lawmakers suggested by the Venice Commission and expects Turkey to abide the verdict of the ECHR. And to protect the parliamentary immunity reprocess and preserve the parliamentary democracy.

UN firmly believes that a sustainable solution in the southeast must be secured and it must ground on a credible policy and is ready to help Turkey return to peace process."
