DIYARBAKIR - 5 thousand years old Kasımlı Höyük, which was registered as the 1st degree archaeological protected area by Diyarbakır Regional Council for Protection of Cultural Heritage, was turned into a military base.
Kasımlı mound which has been a home to many different human communities since B.C 3000 to present day incorporating the remains and artifects from those periods was discovered in 2007 on the 40th km of the Diyarbakır- Silvan highway as a result of the surface surveys conducted by the Diyarbakır Museum Directorate.
In the same year, the Diyarbakır Cultural Heritage Preservation Regional Board Directorate registered the mound in the category of immovable cultural assets within the scope of 'Cultural Heritages' as a first degree archaeological site and took it under protection.
MILITARY BASE ON HISTORY
In 2017, it was revealed that the registered mound was turned into a military base.
The mound, which is under protection in accordance with the Law on the Detection and Registration of Cultural and Natural Heritage Law No. 2863 and not allowed any construction, should be preserved in the same zoning plans and should not be excavated except for scientific excavations, was first shaved by digegrs; After that, straightening works were carried out with heavy machinery. The upper layer of the mound has been completely destroyed.
The authorities of the Diyarbakır Cultural Heritage Preservation Regional Council, which is a unit of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which we reached by telephone on the construction of the military base of Kasımlı Mound registered as a 1st degree archaeological site, claimed that they did not have any information on the construction of the military base.
