Lawyer R.U., registered with the Adana Bar Association, who went to Maraş Türkoğlu No 1 Type L Closed Prison with her family to visit her husband on November 7 was subjected to sexual harassment, insults and threats. Upon hers and Adana Bar Association's denounciation, Maraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office have started an investigation.

 

Within the scope of the investigation, a defense was requested from the prison administration. 

 

In the response sent by the prison administration, it was said that the search was made in accordance with the law and regulations and that there were no single complaint about the employees in prison regarding a strip search.

 

The prison administration also said that the lawyer responded inappropriately when she was asked if she had anything on her and exposed herself to the guards. Prison administration stating that they were victimized and filed a criminal complaint about the lawyer.

 

Lawyer Tugay Bek, President of the Adana Bar Association's Prison Monitoring Commission, told that he had a meeting with the prison administration on November 26 and explained in detail the mistreatment of their colleague.

 

Bek, stating that an investigation was opened and both sides denounced each other, said the investigation continued. Bek, stating that the prison administration claimed that they were right, said he was not surprised at this defense and that this mistreatments were not limited with this prison but a general problem.
