MARDIN - European Parliament deputies Andrea Orlando and Evin İncir, who are investigating in Nusaybin, stated that the attitude of EU countries against President Erdogan's call for a "safe zone" will not change and warned of a "comprehensive arms embargo" if the attacks continue.

Italy's Democratic Party Deputy Chairperson and the former Minister of Justice Andrea Orlando and Evin İncir from Sweden Social Democratic Party who carried out an investigation in Nusaybin recently evaluated the attacks of Turkey against North and East Syria and the stance of the United Nations countries against these attacks.

Andrea Orlando who is also an European Parliament MP, addressing the difference between Turkey's and European Union countries attitude towards the Kurds, said: "Turkey's terrorizing the Kurd's search for justice, won't change the way Europe thinks about the Kurds." Describing the attacks against North and East Syria as occupation, Orlando said: "As soon as the invasion began, both as a party and as a country, we condemned and called for an end to this occupation. Many have made the call for cessation of arms sales to Turkey as a European country and many European countries suspended arms sales. We are keeping the pressure on Turkey to make them abide by universal human rights at the international level and to make them not to violate contracts in this area."

Stating that there is a serious sympathy for Kurds in the international arena, Orlando said that after the attacks there was a serious sensitivity towards the Kurds both in his country and in other countries. Noting that this has never happened before, Orlando warned that the Security Council's decision to take deterrant steps for Turkey is still valid.

Orlando mentioning the support calls AKP President Tayyip Erdoğan makes for the 'safe zone', Orlando said: "EU has made a clear statement in this regard. EU countries will in no way support Turkey's plans to make demographic changes in Syria. We have stated from the beginning that it was a violation of international law. Turkey, citing its imposition of refugees will not change the attitude of the EU countries."

Orlando, lastly, emphasizing the need to comply with international conventions to which Turkey is a party, emphasized that People's Democratic Party (HDP) must be considered a positive actor for the solution of these problems.

European Parliament MP Evin İncir, also stating that Turkey's unilateral military intervention is contrary to the international law, said the relationship of Turkey and EU countries have never been this bad. İncir mentioning the importance of the contribution of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to the fight against ISIS, said: "Turkey's aggressive policies disrupt this struggle. This is what European public opinion thinks.

İncir also stated that EP is preparing an alternative plan against Turkish officials responsible for the violations of rights in the attacks in terms of sanctions and visa bans. Stating that it is regrettable that EP did not agree on a general arms embargo at the EU level, said it might be coming up soon.İncir underlining that Turkey have not stop their attacks despite the ceasefire agreement, said EU is ready to table comprehensive arms embargo with dissuasive sanctions.
