Murat Şimşek, who wis being held in Rize Kalkandere Type L Closed Prison, reported the rights violations in prison to his mother Bedia Şimşek in a weekly telephone conversation. The Şimşek family applied to the Adana Branch of the Human Rights Association (İHD) for violations of rights.

 

Stating that the rights violations became systematic after the State of Emergency (OHAL), prisoner Murat Şimşek reported the rights violations as follows: "The wards are raided under the name of search. They confiscate our humanly needs such as pillows, batteries, and radio from the canteen and force us to buy new ones. They take away our basic needs brought from the outside by our families and visitords. When we oppose to this situation, we are being insulted. We haven't been able to get our photos taken in the wards for 2 years. The letters we send do not reach the recipient. We're not being taken to the hospital for security reasons. The doctor is examining us in the prison in an unhealthy environment. Hospital referrals are usually not made, and it takes months to do so. I went on a hunger strike for 167 days. I have 60 percent vision loss in my eyes. I'm not being treated. We expect sensitivity from related institutions. ”
