HDK: The epidemic will be overcome with self-organization

İSTANBUL - "The pandemic is the product of capitalism and nation states. This process is overcome with the right sociality and organization," the HDK said.

The Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Health Council said in a written statement today: "The coronavirus epidemic clearly shows its source, day-to-day state civilization and its current form, capitalism."

How can we deal with the epidemic?

The HDK said: "Dealing with the consequences of the epidemic and controlling new outbreaks that may occur in the future exceeds the individual and collective capacity of capital. This is not something we can do by taking a little break from our life practices in the current order. This is something that can be achieved with a collective mentality and creative organization of those who fight for the world."

The statement added: "It is possible to overcome this phase by thinking ecologically and building an ecological society. With the right sociality, this process will be overcome. This problem will be overcome with the broadest social organization network, the ability of everyone to express themselves and the democracy to be established through partnership. In the broadest sense, we can achieve this everywhere (neighborhoods, streets, at home, in the workplace, in the hospital) by establishing our self-governments, improving our self-discipline, without discrimination."

The HDK continued: "We should use resources according to the needs of the society. Outbreak cannot be dealt with without equality. The state announced a very narrow economic package for the poor. Most of the package actually benefits capital. In contrast, we should know how to strengthen our networks with our production cooperatives."

The HDK underlined the need to "abolish national borders. There are no borders in an ecological life. Because the virus doesn't know borders. And it reminds us that we are all together in this universe, and humanity must be in a democratic order as part of it.
Let's put social distance into the masculine mind of the state. The government continues to ignore women's body, labor, identity. Wars, migrations, flexible work, precarity, unemployment, economic crisis have been spread all over the world before the virus and have killed women. The slogan 'stay at home' for many women means more violence, more exploitation, more death.

Let's build a democratic life starting from the house, which is the base of social relations.
We need to limit physical contact. It is necessary to do this with our own self-organization and self-regulation / discipline, not with the state's compulsion and prohibition decisions."
