İZMİR- Burhan Özmüş, a prisoner in İzmir Şakran Prison, has reported that they accomodate 20 prisoners in a ward of capacity of 14 and the guardians to not even give a ladle of food per prisoner as they are not given enough food.

 

Burhan Özmüş (24) stays in the Şakran No.3 Type T Closed Prison B-9 Ward and he reported the conditions of the prison via a phone call with his family. Özmüş shared the information that the measures against the coronavirus pandemic are not enough throughtout the prison. 

 

Özmuş shared the information that in a ward of 14 people capacity, they accomodate 20 prisoners all together and 6 of the prisoners sleep on the gorund. In addition to this, their ward has only been disinfected once and there are prisoners among them with chronical diseases. Özmüş spoke as follows: "When we have fever, we call for the guardian, they measure our fever thorugh the bars and they tell us 'you have nothing' and they leave. We have never went through a COVID-19 test so far and there is no measure taken. There is no seperate quarantine zone in the prison for the coronavirus patients. We have no idea if the infirmary works. We demand hygene materials, but they say they have non. The prison is overload despite the releases. In the breakfast they give small piece of cheese and a small pack of jam and a cup of tee. So we are not given health or adequate food. They do not distribute the food per prisoner, so we do not even have a ladle of rice per person. There is no social distance whatsoever."
