İstanbul Governor's Office declared a written statement regarding the yesterday's announcement on Grup Yorum's social media accounts that they will perform at Yenikapı Rally Grounds on August 9.

 

Governor announced that the concert announced was not given permission. "The allegations that the application of the concert, which was reported to be made on Sunday, 9 August 2020 in Yenikapı Rally Area, on some social media accounts and in the press, does not reflect the truth. Not allowed by our governor", was told in the governor's statement.

 

Grup Yorum musicians Helin Bölek and İbrahim Gökçek was on death fast demanding the termination of the concert bans and the release of Grup Yorum's imprisoned members as they also demanded the pressures targeting the İdil Cultural Center. Bölek lost her life on April 28, on the 288th day of her action.

 

As it was promised by the authorities that the bans on concerts, which is one of the basic demands of the death fast, will be lifted, Gökçek gave a break to the death fast on the 323th day of his action on May 5, and then was hospitalized. However, Gökçek lost his life in the hospital on May 7.
