NEWS CENTER - Stating that the Yazidis have been resisting the October 9 Shengal Agreement for 2 years, Shengal Autonomous Board of Directors Co-Chair Azad Hisên said:"Since they did not implement this agreement in Shengal, they are attacking from the air."

Hundreds of Yazidis were killed in the attacks by ISIS in 2014, which the Yazidi community described as the 74th Massacre, and the women who were taken captive were sold in slave markets. The advance of ISIS was halted with the HPG's intervention in Shengal, which was besieged from four sides. The Yazidis, who formed their self-defense forces against ISIS, drove ISIS out of Shengal. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), who then fled from Shengal this time against the Yazidis, who established their own assembly and formed their defense forces, signed the Shengal Agreement with the Iraqi Government on October 9, 2021, and wanted to commit genocide against the Yazidis once again. The Yazidis and other ethnic groups in Shengal, who opposed this agreement, which made the Yazidis weak, took to the streets to  condemnate against this decision.

Air and ground threats against the region were put into effect with this agreement signed between the KDP and the Iraqi Government with the support of the United Nations (UN) and Turkey,.

While a 250-kilometer-long, 3-meter-high and 75-centimeter-thick wall was built between Shengal and Northern and Eastern Syria by Iraqi forces, Turkey's aerial attacks on the region began with these developments. Since the signing of the agreement, Turkey has attacked Shengal 21 times with drones. 16 people were killed in the attacks. On the anniversary of the October 9 Shengal Agreement, Shengal Autonomous Executive Board Co-Chair Azad Hisên spoke to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA).

'RESISTANCE AGAINST THE AGREEMENT'

Stating that an agreement was signed for the massacre of the Yazidis community again, Hisên said: "The people who perpetrated the genocide of the Yazidis in 2014 and those who signed this agreement were the same people. That's why they needed an agreement. They formed such an alliance against the Yazidis. Turkey and some powers supported this alliance from behind the scenes. We joined the alliances. We are not against; however, this alliance was not in the interest of the Yazidis. This alliance was against society. The people who caused the massacre of the Yazidis wanted to massacre them again. There was peace between Rojava and Shengal. But they also wanted to destroy that peace with this alliance. All the articles of this agreement are to the detriment of the society. An alliance should not have been made without the approval of the Yazidis. No one should make an alliance over Shengal without the Shengals. The Yazidis shielded themselves to protect the lands of Iraq and Shengal. They still protect these lands. Therefore, the approval of the Shengalese must be obtained. The children and every Yazidis resisted this alliance and agreement in these 2 years. For this reason, they could not implement the October 9 agreement 100 percent in Shengal."
