NEWS MEREZİ - Stating that fascism against Kurds and their mother tongue emerged once again in the earthquake, NGOs said: "We will fight until Kurdish becomes the official language and the language of education."

Birca Belek Language and Culture Association, operating in the Cizre district of Şırnak, made a statement on the occasion of February 21, World Mother Language Day. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) district administrators, Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) activists and Peace Mothers Council members attended the statement made in front of the association. Association Co-chairperson Cahit Akıl made the statement that the banner "Dar li ser koka xwe mirov li ser axa xwe şîn bottom" was carried.

Indicating that the state's approach to the Kurdish language was once again revealed in the earthquake that took place in Maraş on February 6, Akıl said: "The earthquake once again showed the Turkish State's indifference towards human life, as well as its fascism towards the Kurdish people and the Kurdish language, and its racist approach towards refugees. We have seen how this system leaves non-Turkish people who do not know Turkish to die. Likewise, Kurdish was not used in the emergency lines established to determine places and meet the needs in many Kurdish cities where the earthquake occurred. The most striking example of this is the institution called YIMER. Ignoring the Kurdish language is not taking the Kurds into consideration."

'WE WILL NOT LET IT AT THE MERCY OF THE SYSTEM'

Emphasizing that they will increase their struggle against all kinds of attacks against the Kurdish language, Akıl continued: “If it were not for the unity and solidarity of our people, the consequences of this disaster could have been much greater. From now on, we need to strengthen this unity. Because there is no other way to save ourselves from this bloody system. On February 21, World Mother Language Day, we would like to state that we stand by our people under all circumstances. We will not leave our people and our mother tongue at the mercy of the system. We will fight until Kurdish becomes the official language and the language of education.”
