ISTANBUL - A criminal complaint has been filed against the policemen who beat HDP District Co-chair Yavuz Kahraman and Green Left Party District Co-spokesperson Cemal Korkmaz in Arnavutköy.

It was learned that Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) District Co-chair Yavuz Kahraman and Greens and Left Futures Party (Green Left Party) District Co-spokesperson Cemal Korkmaz were beaten after being stopped by the police on Saturday, May 13, during the election bans, in Arnavutköy, Istanbul.

ASSAULT REPORT IS NOT GIVEN

Describing what happened on the day of the incident, Kahraman stated that they had gathered the stand they had opened in Arnavutköy's Cumhuriyet Square before the election bans started and that they were stopped by the police while they were going towards Fatih Caddesi. Kahraman continued as follows: “Before the propaganda bans started, we gathered our resources and walked to our district building. Then the riot police and security bureau police cut us off. They diverted them to another side for crossing. They brought us in front of the MHP district building and beat us both on the ground. After the beating, one of the police said that they have been waiting for this moment for 42 days. Then we were detained with reverse handcuffs. They took him to Arnavutköy District Police Department. Here they waited for 3 hours. We were then taken to the hospital. We wanted to get an assault report, but it was not given. They left after the hospital.”

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT

Noting that they filed a criminal complaint against the police officers at the Arnavutköy Prosecutor's Office, Kahraman said that they would apply to the Human Rights Association (İHD) and request legal support.
