ANKARA - In the case of the attack on the cemevi in Ankara, the defendants' request for arrest was denied.

On July 30, 2022, 5 simultaneous attacks were carried out against Alevi institutions in Ankara. The 6th hearing of the case against 3 people, one of whom was arrested after the incident, was held at the Ankara 63rd Criminal Court of First Instance. The pending defendants Çağdaş Can Bardakçı and Baver Gül did not attend the hearing. Detained defendant Ahmet Ozan Karaca attended the hearing with Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from Sincan Prison.

REQUEST FOR PROCEDURES

Speaking at the hearing, Democratic Alevi Associations Ankara Co-chair Mustafa Karabudak reminded that Alevis' houses were marked and massacred before, and demanded that the trial be conducted in accordance with the procedure and that investigations and prosecutions should be carried out so that such incidents would not be repeated.

THE HEARING WAS ADJOURNED

The defendant Karaca, who made his defense, claimed that he committed the crime alone. While the court refused the request for the hearing of the witnesses and the arrest of Bardakçı and Gül, it decided to continue the detention of Karaca.

The hearing was adjourned until July 7.
