IĞDIR - Stating that many violations took place in Iğdır Type S Prison, lawyer Rıdvan Şahin said: "The prisoners informed us that 'the guards torture by turning off the cameras that receive sound and video'."

The isolation of the prisoners was aggravated with the Type S prisons. Violations of rights continue in Iğdır Type S Closed Prison, which is frequently on the agenda with torture and ill-treatment. On February 20, 2022, Sezer Alan and on March 20, 2022, Sinan Kaya suspiciously lost their lives in the prison, and the prison administration tried to cover it up by saying "suicide".

In Iğdır Type S Prison, there are many violations not only against prisoners but also against lawyers. Rıdvan Şahin, one of the lawyers who was attacked by the guards during their visit to their clients, talked about the violations in the prison and the beating against him.

'10-15 GUARDS ATTACKED ON US'

Stating that they visited the prison with 3 lawyers on April 14, following complaints of torture and ill-treatment by the families of prisoners and convicts since January, Şahin said: "A prisoner says, 'I can't stand it, I'm going to slit my wrists,' and we went to the prison with the guidance of his family. While I was waiting in the lawyer's room, there were voices saying 'don't do it, don't hit me on the head'. Our lawyer friends also warned the guards not to torture them. Thereupon, 10-15 guards attacked us. The guards were waiting for an opportunity to attack our friends. When I wanted to intervene on this, they started attacking me as well.”

PRISONERS: GUARDS TURN CAMERA OFF

Reminding that the Type S was opened in the city with the pandemic, Şahin said: “After 2022, we received many torture complaints. It was alleged that two political prisoners committed suicide. After these deaths, more attacks began. One of my clients said that the guards are insulting them. When they respond, the guards take them to a room. Normally, the guards have a sound and video camera on their collars, but they turn it off when they enter the room. They beat them the way they want. They are even beating in a large way."
