İZMİR - The free visitation held in Menemen Prison was once again interrupted due to the arbitrary approach of the guards. Addressing the public through their families, the prisoners said that they would not appear in this way and called for sensitivity from the relevant institutions.

Free visitation with the families of political prisoners in Izmir Menemen Type T Closed Prison on Wednesday, January 10, was interrupted due to the provocation of the guards.

The free visitation held in the same prison on December 13, 2023 was also interrupted due to the similar attitudes and approaches of the guards, and the families were taken out. According to the report held by the Prison Directorate, the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office imposed a ban on visiting 7 prisoners for 10 months.

Mustafa Yalçın, the brother of imprisoned Emre Yalçın, who was present during the provocation on January 10, gave information about what happened.

Yalçın explained what happened as follows: "As we entered the prison, we were greeted by the guards' warning that 'hugging is forbidden'. We did not say anything. Then we went inside and sat down. This time they warned us 'don't sit next to each other'. So, we sat across from each other. Then this time they said, 'don't look to the side'. When we were told, we reacted to their attitude. Then they started talking loudly to us. A friend of ours went to meet the prison warden to explain the situation, but we could not reach a conclusion. We protested the situation by taking a report there and applauding."

POLITICAL PRISONERS: WE WILL NOT GO TO THE MEETING

Harun Yakaç, one of the political prisoners, called his mother Hayat Yakaç on the same day and shared his messages to the public about the obstruction of views.

Stating that they will not accept the arbitrary impositions of the guards, prisoner Harun Yakac said: "They actually want to turn the free visitation into a closed visit. Our meeting with the prison administration and the prosecutor's office regarding this issue did not yield any results. We state that we will never accept the free visitation in this way. We support our people and our friends against this inhumane situation. We invite you to give us strength. Even if we haven't held a meeting for years, we will not hold a meeting like this."
