BINGOL - Politicians and democratic mass organization representatives who continued the "Great Freedom March" in Kanîreş district demanded the solution of the Kurdish issue and the freedom of Abdullah Ocalan.

The "Great Freedom March", initiated for the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the democratic solution to the Kurdish issue, continues its 7th day. Politicians and representatives of democratic mass organizations in the Qers (Kars) branch of the march reached Kanîreş (Karlıova) district of Çewlîg (Bingol). Marchers were welcomed at the entrance of the district with the slogan "Bijî berxwedana İmraliyê (Long live resistance of Imralı)".

'LEGITIMATE DEMAND'

Speaking after the march, People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Deputy Omer Ocalan said: "I commemorate Mehmet Karasungur, Mazlum Dogan, Hayri Durmuş. They laid their bodies to death and paid a great price. Here your grandchildren are walking in your footsteps. This is Kurdistan and this is our homeland. We are equal and free. We want to live. We came here, starting from Qers. We are marching for the freedom of Mr. Ocalan. We are marching for the freedom of our country and the freedom of our people. We want to have a status like other peoples. We want the Kurdish issue to be solved. There is unlawfulness. Why don't you allow us to meet with Mr. Ocalan? This is enemy law. Our demands are legitimate and justified. We will continue to fight for these rights."

Ocalan said: "We want the Kurdish issue to be resolved under the supervision of Mr. Ocalan. Currently, the state is using its entire economy to destroy the Kurds. Why is this country's money spent on war? Do not use the money of the Turkish and Kurdish people to oppress this people. We do not want the children of these people to die anymore."

After the statement, the public came together in a coffeehouse. Sections from Ocalan's meeting notes were read.

HAYRI DURMUS

The marchers commemorated Hayri Durmuş, one of the leading cadres of the PKK, who lost his life in the hunger strike action launched against the brutality committed in Diyarbakır Prison No. 5, where he stayed during the 1980 coup d’état, at his grave in Çewlîg.

Marchers came to the cemetery with carnations in their hands and observed a minute of silence. Afterwards, the slogan "Honor your martyr" was chanted.

DEM Party Deputy Omer Faruk Hulaku, who started his speech by commemorating Hayri Durmuş and his friends, said: “Right now, every part of Turkey has turned into Diyarbakır No. 5. But they should know that if there are Esat Oktays, there are also the Mazlums and the Hayris who resist against this. Hayri Durmuş said, ‘If I die, write on my grave that I owe a debt to my people.’ He doesn't owe us, we owe him. We will protect it with our resistance."

A section from Hayri Durmuş's defense in court was also read at the commemoration. After carnations were left on Durmuş's grave, the graves of those who lost their lives in the freedom struggle were visited.
