Release decision for journalist Karakaş

ADANA - Yeni Yaşam newspaper worker Ibrahim Karakaş, who was tried again after the Supreme Court overturned the prison sentence given to him, was sentenced to 6 years and 10 months in prison on the allegation of "member of a terrorist organization", was released.
 
The hearing of the case in which Yeni Yaşam newspaper worker Ibrahim Karakaş, who was arrested in Adana on November 6, 2020, for his journalistic activities and witness statements, was retried after the 9 years and 9 months prison sentence given by the Adana 11th High Criminal Court was overturned by the Supreme Court of Appeals, was held. Karakaş and his lawyer Tugay Bek attended the hearing held in the 11th High Criminal Court of Adana. Karakaş, who made his defence at the hearing after his identification, rejected the allegations against him and asked for his release and acquittal. Speaking later, his lawyer Tugay Bek stated that Karakaş is a journalist and not a member of any organization. After his defence, Bek demanded release and acquittal for his client.
 
Announcing its decision after the defences, the court panel sentenced Karakaş to 6 years and 10 months in prison on the charge of "being a member of a terrorist organization", and gave him a decision to release him with judicial control measures such as not leaving the city (Adana) he is in, a ban on traveling abroad and signing signatures.
