IZMIR - The fire, which started in Karşıyaka and could not be brought under control, spread to Bayraklı and Çiğli districts. Houses were evacuated in some areas.
The fire, which started in Izmir Karşıyaka Yamanlar Mountain yesterday evening and could not be brought under control in the intervening time, continues to grow and spread with the effect of the wind. The fire, which was intervened by air and land, also spread to Bayraklı and Çiğli districts. The fire spread to Karşıyaka Municipality's 1st Class Waste Collection Center, and the facility and vehicles were burned and rendered unusable. Due to the fire, Sancaklı village and Doğançay neighborhood, Karşıyaka Municipality Örnekköy Construction Site Facilities, Örnekköy Temporary Dog Care Center and Celal Üner Animal Care Center were evacuated as a precautionary measure. It is learned that the animals in the nursing homes were transferred to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality PAKO Social Life Campus for Stray Animals.
While 3 houses in Doğançay Neighborhood were damaged by the flames, reinforcements were sent to the area. 5 airplanes, 15 helicopters, 46 land vehicles, 10 water supply, 4 dozers and 4 ground teams were dispatched to the flames. The teams, who had a hard time due to strong winds, continue to intervene from the air and on the ground. Due to the fire, the roads leading to Doğançay and Sancaklı neighborhoods, the roads leading to Bayraklı TOKİs 6th Stage were closed to traffic and the traffic flow on Baş Pehlivan Karaali Street towards the sea courts was closed. On the other hand, the roads to Zübeyde Hanım Neighborhood on Yeni Girne Street are also closed and the highway is given a compulsory direction.
‘THERE ARE BURNING HOUSES’
Speaking about the fire, Karşıyaka Mayor Yıldız Ünsal said: “We are in the area with all our teams to fight the fire. We are closely following all developments. We are trying to take all necessary measures to prevent loss of life. We will be on alert to bring the flames under control as soon as possible.”
Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban said that there were houses on fire but he could not give a number. Stating that they had to stop the aerial intervention because the wind speed exceeded 80 kilometers per hour, “However, we have nearly 60 fire trucks, TOMAs, water vehicles, construction equipment, fire brigades, police... There is an intervention with more than 1000 teams in the field. The fire is not yet under control. Our efforts continue intensively. We evacuated a village, we evacuated some houses. If the wind speed decreases, support will be provided by aircrafts” Elban said.
FOUNTAIN EXTINGUISHED
While the intervention to the fire in the olive grove in Kemalpaşa district continues, the fire in the non-forest area in Çeşme district was brought under control with aerial and ground intervention.
MANISA
As the forest fire that broke out in Gördes district of Manisa on August 14 continued, the rural neighborhoods of Karayakup with 20 houses and Yeniköy with 57 houses, where 40 people live, were evacuated. In the Karayakup neighborhood, all houses, including the mosque, were burned to the ground. No civilians are allowed to enter or exit the village. The agricultural land fire in Kaşıkçı was extinguished after the teams intervened in the fires from the air and on the ground.
In addition to the fire brigades of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, MASKİ and City Aesthetics Department teams are also supporting the extinguishing efforts. In the region, 13 fire trucks belonging to Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, 9 tankers belonging to MASKİ and Urban Aesthetics Department and 88 personnel continue fire extinguishing efforts.
MUĞLA
In Muğla Milas district, a fire started in the olive grove area located behind Muğla TOKİ residences at around 12:00 for an unknown reason. Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade teams and a fire-fighting helicopter of Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the fire. The teams intervened from the air and land to prevent the flames from spreading to olive trees and other surrounding areas. While the flames were brought under control in a short time as a result of intensive work, a study was started to determine the cause of the fire.
AYDIN
In Aydın Didim district, the fire in the maquis area is being intervened from the air and land. The fire near Akyeniköy neighborhood spread with the effect of the wind. Both ground and aerial extinguishing efforts continue.
Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat stated in a statement that 20 houses were evacuated. The equipment used to fight the fire includes 4 helicopters, 3 airplanes, 9 land vehicles, 7 water tankers and 3 dozers. In addition, 7 fire trucks and 7 water tankers from Aydın Metropolitan Municipality are also participating in the work.
