RIHA - PEN International President Burhan Sönmez stated that journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin were murdered while pursuing the truth and says, "We are in days when we need a Free Press more than ever."
PEN International President Burhan Sönmez evaluated the murder of journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin by a Turkish drone. Pointing out that Kurds are being targeted in North and East Syria, Sönmez said: "Journalists are being silenced to prevent the truth from coming out. Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin were murdered while pursuing the truth at a time when fake and biased news was all around. We are in days when we need a Free Press and the right to free expression more than ever. In order to find a permanent solution to the problems in Syria and for the Kurdish community to have a free voice like all other communities, peaceful means must be taken as a basis."
